August 2014, my then boyfriend hiked me up to the top of Pic Negre, the highest peak in Andorra, and proposed. A year later, we were lucky enough to be married in his parents’ beautiful garden with the ceremony led by my dad and surrounded by friends and family.
Now in our 30s, we talked long and hard about things we hadn’t done in our 20s, and although Nick had spent a year travelling around India and Bangladesh, and I had worked abroad as a dancer, we thought our honeymoon was the perfect time to explore a bit more of the world, just in case I should pop a sprog or something. We nervously quit our jobs and decided to embark on a 6-8 month back-packing trip around South East Asia.
